Georgie All Along by Kate Clayborn was an easy enough read. Georgie returns to her hometown after burning out as an assistant in LA, and slowly learns how to put herself first through her old writing, an old flame, and a quest to complete some of the things she dreamed she’d do as a teenager (jump off a dock, etc). This was sweet enough, but not particularly memorable.
Small World by Laura Zigman was an audiobook listen for me, and is women’s fiction at its core. Joyce lives alone, and enjoys her quiet life, until her older sister Lydia moves in “temporarily”. What follows are sisterly tensions, the unpacking of the death of their sister at ten years old and their family dynamics, and Lydia’s exploration of the woo woo world while Joyce remains firmly rooted in her own lane. I enjoyed listening to this one…
Life in Five Senses by Gretchen Rubin was an obvious read for me, since I’ve been a longtime listen of her “Happier” podcast, but this one didn’t *zing* me the way some of her other titles have. I enjoyed learning more about our senses, and Gretchen’s books are easy to read and interesting without being weighty or overbearing. Her personal antecdotes are interesting, even if they relate to my life not at all.😉
You Could Make This Place Beautiful by Maggie Smith is a memoir about the end of her marriage, about being a woman, about being a writer, and about having human feelings in a human world. Her writing is beautiful (and is interspersed with some of her poetry, of which she is most known), and I liked the unpacking of her life through the vignettes of this memoir though in some ways I wanted to shake her and say “move on, he has!”.
Anon Pls. by Deux Moi was just a FOMO read… I’ve seen this dishy book everywhere, and had to see what the fuss was! This is a VERY thinly veiled novel about the rise and fall (and rise again) of anonymous celebrity Instagrammer Deux Moi, imagining her instead as Cricket, a celebrity stylist who revamps her celeb gossip Instagram and becomes famous herself. The best kind of vapid and dishy and celeb-obsessed. 🙂
