A Mish Mash of Books

While I love a good Regency romance and never miss a Jodi Picoult novel, I do try and genre jump when I can. Here’s what’s been on my radar lately…

Last Words by Michael Koryta is a stand-alone novel from acclaimed mystery writer (and fellow Hoosier!) Koryta. This time, a girl is lost in a southern Indiana caving system. An expert caver goes in to find her…and emerges with her dead body. But he is responsible? There is a LOT of detail in Koryta’s novels, but they are always unexpected!

Everything I Left Unsaid by M. O’Keefe is a new adult/erotic novel, but is, I would venture to say, better written than most, and with a more unique storyline than just “rich alpha male, damaged female”. The sex scenes are…unconventional, and the characters more richly drawn and fleshed out. I enjoyed it – and am looking forward to the sequel!

Things You Won’t Say by Sarah Pekkanen is definitely a “ripped from the headlines” novel – intentionally or no. Mike is an officer that is part of an officer-shooting at his police station, and his partner is gravely injured. Weeks later, there is another shooting – and Mike is holding the gun. This is less a story of violence and more about how families cope with extreme circumstances and how relationships can change. Pekkanen is always a solid read!

I also listened to Betrayed by Lisa Scottoline, the latest Rosato & Associates novel. Another solid mystery novel by superstar Scottoline! I also listened to Hot Pursuit by Stuart Woods – formulaic by fun!

I read Two Across by Jeff Bartsch because I loved the sound of the premise (two spelling bee champs marry to bilk people of presents; drama ensues) but the story just didn’t live up to my expectations. Sigh.
