MayDay, MayDay…

…we have a lotta reads to get through during the month of May, so let’s get into our first batch!

Major Gift by Tiffany Ezuma is the latest in the congo line from 831 Stories – novella-length romance novels written by a variety of authors. This time, we have a widow who is giving away the wealth of her billionaire husband, and the journalist who is writing a story about it… and sparks fly. This was quick, satisfying, and none too taxing!

Love By the Book by Jessica George was an audiobook listen, and I liked that this was not a romance, but rather a novel about the strength and importance of female friendships. Remy feels her rock-solid girls group drifting away, and soon befriends Simone, who has lost her family due to her work choices. They are an unlikely pairing, but the novel really makes you feel the push and pull and utter importance of platonic relationships… and was a great narration!

Dissection of a Murder by Jo Murray is a contemporary legal thriller, and I could NOT put it down! Leila is an up and coming barrister, married to a ruthless prosecutor… who are then pitted against each other in the courtroom over the high-profile case of a murdered judge. This was so sharp, so smart, my jaw dropped with the twists, so tense, and just… chilling throughout (I wish I could say more, but I don’t wanna give even a whiff of spoilers!). I can absolutely see why this has been fast-tracked as season 2 on Apple of Presumed Innocent. This thriller was utterly fantastic!!

Most Eligible by Isabelle Engel was an audiobook listen, and a fun one! Georgia is an investigative journalist who has been cast on a Bachelor-esque show to uncover what goes on behind the scenes, and is determined not to blow her cover – except that she’s met the host before… I loved hearing how these reality show are ACTUALLY filmed, the back and forth of romance and identity, and just bopped along to this easy listen. 🙂
