It’s Gonna Be May

Let’s get into some more reviews!

Whistler by Ann Patchett is just… lovely prose and vibes and warmth and comfort food and all the things. Patchett’s books are both about nothing really happening and everything happening, but I sank into each and every page about a 50-something stepdaughter reuniting with her stepfather and the memories that resurface and the bond they reforge. I absolutely loved it.

Turkish Delight & Treasure Hunts by Jane Brocket is a title I’ve had on my TBR for ages, and finally found a copy on ThriftBooks! This is a gentle and cozy read which mines children’s literature for activities and recipes inspired by children’s stories (think Anne of Green Gables, Enid Blyton, the Secret Garden, etc.). A lovely thing to read!

The Land and Its People by David Sedaris is his newest collection of essays, and if you already love Sedaris, you will continue to do so. Always a hit!

The Mad Wife by Meagan Church is an upcoming book discussion title for us that I haven’t previously read. This takes place in the 1950s (think jello salads and housewives) from the perspective of a housewife who is struggling with depression, motherhood, mental health loads, neighbors and so forth. This felt like a bit of a whiplash titles (trying to hard to do too many things!) and was a bit wishy-washy in terms of tone (from lighthearted to hella dark), but I know there will be good discussion to be had!
